On Tuesday 2nd of July we were delighted to welcome His Royal Highness Prince Andrew,  Duke of York to Lindores Abbey Distillery, accompanied by Robert Balfour the Lord Lieutenant of Fife.

On arrival Drew introduced the Duke to Helen, Gary and Jane after which he met almost all of the Lindores team. He even received a very regal curtsy from Nid, one of our super housekeeping team before quizzing Charley on her bee keeping duties.

Following this Drew took him on a brief tour, firstly to the Apothecary where Tim and Lorena were on hand to enlighten him about how our Aqua Vitae is made and its earliest origins.

This was followed by a walk through the Cloister with Drew picking out various aspects of the Abbey’s history, skilfully avoiding mentioning the occasion when a previous King and 100 of his court stayed at Lindores for ten days over Christmas in 1364 and then left without paying!

The Duke then visited the distillery hall where Gary and his team ran through the whisky making process. There were lots of very pertinent questions throughout and His Royal Highness seemed especially interested to hear more about our cask offerings and the Lindores Preservation Society.

After this we had a very pleasant lunch in the Legacy Bar where we outlined our vision for the future, our aspirations for China and elsewhere, after which the Duke had to leave for his next appointment an hour late – surely the sign of a successful visit!?

We were proud to host HRH after he had welcomed us to the recent ‘Pitch at the Palace‘ event at St James Palace where a number of entrepreneurs pitched their business ideas to a room full of potential investors. This is a great platform established by HRH to help budding entrepreneurs around the globe. It is also an honour for that Lindores Abbey Aqua Vitae was able to be part of those occasions, helping the entrepreneurs and investors alike to relax with a cocktail after what must be an extremely nerve wracking 3 mins, or in many cases 30 seconds – that is genuinely the time they are allocated to impress the audience!
