Description
With a bowl diameter of 3.5″ our Lindores Wooden Quaichs will hold around 100ml of whisky; enough to share and plenty enough for mulling over.
Hand made by a local master craftsman our “Drammer” Quaichs are unapologetically handcrafted. They are finished smoothly on the inside but retains the tool marks on the outside. All of the final shaping is carried out by hand. No CNC machines, no lasers, this is where finely honed steel meets wood. The Quaich is then finished with several coats of food safe and alcohol resistant polish to impart a beautiful sheen. After this, a polished copper mark is added to the base. Itself a nod to the pot stills used in whisky making.
Finally, the quaich is gift packaged in our branded, natural cotton drawstring bag, partnered with a scroll which explains the history and cultural significance of the Quaich before being presented in a custom kraft box.
Choose from 4 finishes – Natural, Smoked, Scorched and Smoked Gloss.
Dating back to the 16th century, the wooden Quaich has been offered through the centuries as a welcoming gift at Clan Gatherings and to visitors from far and wide across the world. The word “Quaich” is a Scots rendering of the Gaelic word “Cuach”, meaning cup. The two handed design of this vessel incorporates trust on the part of both the giver and receiver.
Often given as a wedding gift, the Quaich is one of Scotland’s traditional cups of friendship and is used during a wedding ceremony for couples to exchange whisky symbolising two families becoming one.
So, whether you are celebrating summiting your first munro or your last, enjoying an atmospheric overnight in a Highland bothy or simply relaxing by the fire at the end of a hard day, the Quaich makes the perfect companion. Slàinte!
