Thiron - Limited Edition

Thiron

Available 12th September 2024

We are both proud and excited to introduce THIRON 2024, the first in an annual series of Limited Edition bottlings at Lindores Abbey Distillery.

This release has been in the background for over eight years, before we even had whisky ready to sell. In 2016, Drew, Helen and Poppy travelled to Thiron-Gardais, a small town in France, with a keenness to learn about the birthplace of the monks who founded Lindores Abbey.

Whilst there, they visited an area of woodland where Thiron Oak trees grew, and so began the journey that led us to this very release. This whisky features a contribution from our award-winning spirit that was matured in casks handcrafted using wood sourced from Thiron-Gardais. Alongside specially selected Rejuvenated Red Wine Barriques and Bourbon casks, this whisky is exceptional on the nose and palate, providing an immersive journey through time with each sip, decanting history with every dram.

THIRON 2024 will be available to buy in our Visitor Centre, online and from selected UK Stockists from 12th September 2024.

This is a Limited Edition release with no purchase limit per customer. We strongly advise prompt purchasing to avoid disappointment.

More about this product

TASTING NOTES: ‘Thiron’ is imbued with beautiful aromas of mellow vanilla cake, caramel syrup, baking spices and fruity plum jam. Discover flavours of oaky vanilla and butterscotch, undertones of more plum jam playing with cinnamon & ginger, and layers of roasted chestnuts. A finely balanced and complex whisky, with a delightful finish and the smooth, silky texture that is synonymous with the character of Lindores spirit.

HISTORY: In 1191, Tironensian monks from the French Order of Tiron arrived at Lindores to establish a monastery. These industrious men preferred a practical lifestyle in a cloistered setting, and were skilled in various trades, including masonry, distilling, brewing, carpentry, blacksmithing, sculpture, painting, gardening, beekeeping, farming, and animal husbandry. Upon their arrival, the land surrounding the Abbey had to be tamed and properly cultivated, resulting in the growth of vast orchards that showcased the monks’ expertise.

Each sip of our new Lowland Scotch Whisky is a journey through time, nurtured in virgin oak casks hewn from the same lands that connect Thiron Abbey and Lindores Abbey across centuries. And to ensure sustainability and express gratitude, the wood used has been replaced by new oaks, planted with care by our founders Drew and Helen McKenzie Smith in the Abbey gardens of Thiron Gardais.

Here’s to celebrating legacy—one glass at a time.
