A little further into the Distillery build, as we began to dismantle the walls, we were surprised and delighted to discover a great many decorative stones which had obviously formed part of the Abbey.
After its sacking by John Knox these had lain within the ruins before being ‘reclaimed’ when the farm steading was constructed a couple of hundred years ago. To avoid theft the builders turned the carved sides inwards and it is thanks to their ingenuity that they are preserved to this day.
Some of these stones will now be incorporated into the visitor experience.
