Our Casks of Lindores II STR has just been awarded the highest honour at the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition 2024 – the SUPERIOR GOLD MEDAL! This incredible award was earned by only 27 out of 617 whiskies. This is a HUGE achievement and reflects the exceptional quality of our whisky.
We didn’t stop there; our MCDXCIV, Casks of Lindores II Bourbon, and Casks of Lindores II Sherry also secured GOLD medals. Only 149 out 617 entries received gold medals, so another fantastic achievement. Congratulations to our amazing team A huge shout out to our amazing team for their dedication and craftsmanship. About Lindores Abbey Distillery
Found by the river Tay, Lindores Abbey Distillery was reopened by the McKenzie-Smith family in 2017, with their first single malt whisky released in 2021. Known as the ‘spiritual home of Scotch Whisky’, the earliest written reference to Scotch Whisky, or Aqua Vitae, appears in the 1494 Exchequer Roll, recording a Brother John Cor, a Lindores monk, who was commissioned by King James IV to turn 8 bolts of malt into Aqua Vitae.
As a small, family-run distillery, Lindores Abbey Distillery aims to learn as much as they can from the great Scottish distillers around it, past and present, and from others much further afield, and are delighted to be bringing a very modern whisky-making approach to this ancient site.
About the Tokyo Whisky and Spirits Competition
The Tokyo Whisky and Spirits Competition is one of the largest in Asia and the the only competition in Japan to judge whiskeys and spirits from around the world. It has been held in March annually since 2019.
The event is organised by the Japan Whisky Research Center and aims to highlight spirits that are well-suited to a Japanese palate and preference. From 2020, the competition was divided into two sections with a western spirits and a sochu division.
The highest distinction of the competition is Superior Gold with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals also awarded.
The competition is judged by a large panel of 300 industry specialists in two stages: a remote primary screening throughout January and Febuary followed the final stage in Tokyo in March.
